Over 100 community members attended the Covenant Club Visionaries Party at the Garden Club. The event was hosted by the Rancho Santa Fe Association Membership and Marketing Sub-Committee, with proceeds going toward proposed amenities for the Health Club facility.
Rancho Santa Fe Association Board Member and Membership and Marketing Sub-Committee Chair Heather Slosar led the event by outlining how the new amenities would be a welcome addition to the Ranch community. When asked why she was so passionate about improving the facilities around the Ranch -- a pool in particular -- Board Director Slosar pointed to the long history of attempting to construct a pool in the Ranch.
“Going back to the 1940’s there has always been talk of a pool. Now we have a unique opportunity with the makeup of our board and the support of the community to make this a reality,” she said.
New Health Club amenities have been a big issue in the community over the past year. A survey sent to RSF residents found that fitness equipment along with a pool facility were among the most popular options for new amenities. Along with being favorable with residents, experts also point to changing trends among younger families who prefer more active lifestyle amenities as opposed to more traditional activities like golf.
Still, some members feel that a community pool would also add to the sense of community in the Ranch. One member even spoke to his childhood in the Midwest and the excitement of going to the pool after school was out in the summer.
The sense of community was also a major inspiration for Slosar, who said that after moving to the Ranch thirteen years ago she felt like there was a lack of community space where families could relax and interact with the whole family.
The Membership and Marketing Sub Committee will continue to meet to discuss the details of new facilities before making a formal recommendation to the Rancho Santa Fe Association Board of Directors.
