Hello, Phil Trubey here, sending an occasional email about RSF.
Stay The Course
I played golf on Thursday and managed to perfectly catch the four-hour rain drizzle during our round. But I was smiling the whole time because the alternative was attending the RSFA's strategic planning meeting
I'm kidding, kind of. Readouts from the meeting were that it went very well and was worthwhile.
But I was very curious whether this new Board would affirm the outgoing Board's strategic renovation plans. All indications are that it’s steady as she goes; while there are many approvals, budgets and checkpoints in the future, at this point in time the major capital projects are a go.
Here's a recap of what's currently planned:
Standard conditions apply, everything subject to change, etc.
Looking For a Few Good People
Two RSFA Art Juror terms are expiring at the end of the year for the five-person Art Jury, and the Association is looking for volunteers.
This is both a demanding and a rewarding job. If you have a passion for architecture, styles, and high-quality construction, this role is for you. Every three weeks, you'll examine submitted plans via dropbox a day or two in advance, then spend a day on site visits followed by a day of deliberations.
If it sounds like a lot of work, it is. But for those who love architecture, this is a very fulfilling volunteer position.
When driving around Rancho, people often comment about how they can't see many houses; they are all hidden. This isn't accidental, the Art Jury works to ensure this.
They also try to ensure that high-quality materials and architecture are used so that when you do see houses or structures, they don't look like a contractor's special you'd find in a tract home which directly impacts all our property values.
The ideal Art Juror isn't either overly nitpicky, nor so lenient that almost anything can be built. Ideally, the Art Jury should be seen as a free helpful consultant to improve your project.
If you have the time, energy for long meetings, and truly love architecture, then please consider applying for the role. It is recommend to attend an Art Jury meeting and talk to an Art Juror before deciding to volunteer. Hurry because there's only a few more Art Jury meetings left before the self nomination deadline.

So there’s this recurring thing on X where people will take skeptics on a test drive in their Tesla, showing them autonomous driving, acceleration, ride comfort, etc., and the skeptics gush that they didn’t know it was that good and immediately go out and buy a Tesla.
I’m skeptical of this actually happening 😄. So I’ll put it to you, dear reader: If you think a Tesla’s ability to drive you around with no hands or feet at the controls is hogwash, or are just curious about how well it works and want to try it out, ask me for a demo. I’d be happy to drive over and we can chat about life, the universe and everything while the car drives us places.
I haven't controlled my car for months - it does it all for me, I just take over when I reach parking lots. Often, when parked at a lot, it'll actually start driving me home right from the parking spot, backing up, etc.
Currently, the system still requires you to pay attention and take over if necessary (and there's an in cabin camera making sure you do that), but we're expecting that early next year, supervision won't be needed.
